By the end of this module, you should:

 

  • understand the role of calcium induced exocytosis of vesicles containing neurotransmitter in the presynaptic neuron in neurotransmission

     

  • for the most important neurotransmitters in the central nervous system (glutamate, GABA, noradrenaline, serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine), be able to identify: key precursors, key enzymes involved in their synthesis and key enzymes involved in their degradation

     

  • be able to apply the above knowledge to the actions of psychotropic drugs.
