About Trainees Online

What educational standard are the learning modules?

The Trainees Online website aims to support the learning needs of trainee psychiatrists preparing for the MRCPsych Examinations.

As such, the content of the learning modules is screened by the College Examinations Panels, to ensure that material meets the expectations of the relevant Membership Examinations. However, it should be noted that modules will include specific ‘Key reading’ lists, and an examination-level understanding of a given topic should only be expected in association with this further reading.

Will Trainees Online cover everything I need to study in order to pass the MRCPsych Examinations?

At the moment, Trainees Online is producing modules on the Basic Sciences MRCPsych syllabus only. In the topics covered by Trainees Online, satisfactory appreciation of the material in the modules, combined with the carefully-targeted ‘Key reading', should be sufficient to get you through those sections of the examination. The College is currently discussing plans to develop modules on the Clinical areas of the MRCPsych syllabus.

Who are the authors of Trainees Online learning modules? Can I trust the academic quality of the modules?

Authors are, in the main, higher trainees with a special interest in their topic area, commissioned to write by the College. Prior to publication, each module is also reviewed by another expert in the field. Modules are also reviewed by members of the MRCPsych Examinations panel to ensure that the content meets the expectations of the relevant Membership Examinations.

Where can I see the MRCPsych Examinations syllabus?

The latest syllabus is available to download.

Can I contribute to Trainees Online?

We are currently looking for expert reviewers, and welcome your expressions of interest. See further information on how to contribute.

Is there a place to study Trainees Online modules whilst I am at the College?

Yes. The College Library and Information Service on the Ground Floor has computers, Wi-Fi access, and a copier/fax/scanner. It is located next to the Members’ area where there is a tea and coffee-making facility.

Is help available for literature searches and obtaining journal articles?

For College members, the College Library and Information Service can undertake literature searches and offer free access to all articles and documents published by the College, as well as articles from many major psychiatric and international journals.

Will I get a certificate for module completion?

There is no certificate of completion for learning modules on Trainees Online. However, each module does contain interactive activities and questions to check your knowledge and help you consolidate your learning. Consider your certificate of completion as your final success in the MRCPsych examination!
